Hal Hafenbrack

April 6, 1929 — March 18, 2018

Hal moved from Toronto to Ottawa in the 50's where he married his beloved Bea (Smaglinski) and embarked on a career in property assessment. Self-styled story-teller and poet he MC'd many a family wedding and office party; he also played Santa Claus and Bozo the clown at many functions in and around Ottawa and the Valley. His goal, even at the end, was to make people laugh, and he succeeded. Thank you to the staff at Stillwater Creek where he made his home for many years and to his niece Mary Thorstensen-Woll and her husband Knut who kindly and patiently helped him deal with the challenges of life he faced in his latter years. He will be sadly missed by many, in particular Frances Thomson and his godchild, Lynn Thomson and Bea's sister, Agnes Corcoran. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (at Bayshore Drive) on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 from 1 p.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at Hope Cemetery on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Heart or Eye Institutes or the Regional Cancer Centre. Condolences, tributes and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
