Gloria Elizabeth May Waterhouse

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Gloria Waterhouse. Gloria was born October 9, 1935, to Gertrude and Gilbert Johnson. She passed away peacefully in Ottawa on November 3, 2024, age 89. Predeceased by her loving husband Roland, brother Gilbert and her parents. 

Gloria grew up in Westboro and was a proud graduate of Lisgar Collegiate Institute. In 1958 she married Roland Waterhouse and together they raised their two sons. At the age of 40 Gloria determinedly returned to school achieving a diploma in Social Work and eventually earning her Registered Nursing qualifications. She worked with the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Youth Services Bureau in Ottawa. 

Gloria had a passion for helping others, especially children. Upon retiring, she devoted her time, energy, and resources to filling Christmas boxes for children around the world through the Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” program and cherished her role as “Grammy” to both her own grandchildren and many children in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. 

Gloria is survived by her children Tim (Meg) and David, her beloved grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) and Rebecca (Peter), her sisters Gale (Danny), Glenda (Stuart), her brother Greg (Susan) as well as her sister-in-law Sonia, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to Christine from Seniors on Site and all the dedicated and caring staff on the Kerry floor of St. Patrick’s Home for their compassion and kindness.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Tubman Funeral Homes, Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Rd., Ottawa on Tuesday, November 12 from 12 - 2 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm, followed by interment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
