Gladys Ogilvie

June 14, 1929 — April 10, 2020

OGILVIE, Gladys Joanne (nee MacAskill), daughter of Mary and Charles MacAskill of Cape Breton, after nine decades of life, peacefully passed away on Good Friday, April 10, 2020. Together in life for over 65 years with Fred Ogilvie, she was the proud mother of seven children and the beloved grandmother to eleven.

The hallmark of her life’s journey was her infallible love and care for her family. The happy home she created was the gathering place for all, with room always for one more at her table.  Saturday afternoons were idyllic, full of the aroma of her homemade bread & cookies and the sounds of radio music in our big orange kitchen. She fed us, her village, with more than food, always offering prayers and encouraging advice. She was a mother to more than us, welcoming and treating friends as family throughout her life.

Aside from her accomplishment of a loving home and family, Gladys took distinct pride in her 15 years of service with the Government of Canada.  She courageously started her career at 50 and made many wonderful friends throughout Ottawa and Quebec.

She will be deeply missed by all. Rest In Peace “Ma”, “Mrs O”, beloved “Mom”. We will miss your sparkling eyes, clever humour and wisdom shared in songs.

She leaves behind her seven adoring children: Lucinda, Susan, Carey, Kevin (Corrine), predeceased son Curtis 2019 (Linda), Chris (Connie) and Trina; and her eleven grandchildren: Jasmine(Dave), Andrew, Ashley, Dylan, Chelsea (Brooks), Alyssa (Matt), Annika, Michael, Tom, Connor and Adam. As well as her last remaining sibling Roy, and many nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario.

We deeply grieve her loss and want to extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to the tireless, kind and dedicated staff of Garden Terrace, especially Maria, who provided gentle and dedicated care to her. We thank everyone for their messages of love for our mom & support for us.
