It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Kealey following a courageous battle with Dementia. Gerry leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his family, who he adored. Cherished husband to the love of his life Elaine Kealey (née Byrne) of 61 years and their beloved children Sherry Macey (Dave), Devin (Diana), Tammy Donaldson (Larry). Nothing brought Gerry more pride and joy than his grandchildren Danielle (Mike), Ryan (Áine), Alyssa (Dave), Amber (Brian), Andrew (Meaghan), Lauren and Matthew and his great grandchildren Scarlett and Ella. He will be watching over two more great grandchildren who are due to arrive this Summer.
He is also survived by his sisters Noreen (late Ron Syme), Linda (Don O’Neill), his brothers Norbert (May), Kenneth (Sandra), and Brian (Marilyn). Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Cecelia Kealey (née Hughes), brothers Kevin (Barbara), William "Billy" (late Betty Ann), Michael and his favourite puppies Sunshine, Honey, Coco and Topaz. He will be dearly missed by his brothers-in-law Wayne Byrne (Gwen), Glen Byrne (Sandra) and his many nephews and nieces.
Raised in Almonte, Gerry was hard working, kind, generous, and positive. A family man to his core, a devout Catholic and an avid dog lover. He was a proud employee of Bell Canada for over 33 years where he was a well respected and caring manager. His work with Bell moved his family from Ottawa to Sudbury in the early 80s before eventually returning to Stittsville. At age 55, Gerry started a successful international consulting business in telecommunications which lead to extended adventures in Texas, Hawaii, Ireland, Malaysia and Australia. His life’s work was recognized by the University of Waterloo with an honorary degree for his dedication and expertise in the field. His passions included gardening, delicious food, attending the Carp Fair, time with his kids and grand-kids in Disney World and travelling the world with Elaine on cruise ships!
Gerry’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Granite Ridge in Stittsville for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd) on Monday, February 13th from 7-9 p.m. A service will be held at Saint Isidore Parish (1135 March Road, Kanata) on Tuesday, February 14th at 10:00 AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ottawa Humane Society in Gerry’s name would be greatly appreciated.
