Gerald "Gerry" Greer

October 16, 1933 — February 23, 2024

Passed away Friday, February 23, 2023 at the age of 90. He will be sadly missed by his most devoted loving wife, Dolores, of 65 years.

Gerry had the deepest love for his family: Karen (Phil), Allan (Tracy), Alison (Sean); and cherished his grandchildren: Alexandra, Brent (Rio), Mike (Rose) and Alex.

Born in Arden, Ontario, he spent his youth in Smiths Falls, Ontario. In 1958 Gerry graduated as a chartered accountant beginning a 34 year career that culminated with him retiring as a respected senior partner at KPMG in 1992. His other accomplishments included: Past President of the Ottawa C.A. Association, a member of Thorne, Ernst & Whinney Policy Board, a Past President of the Queensway Carleton Rotary Club, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Rotary Fellowship in recognition of exceptional service. He was also a member of both the Board of Directors of the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Ontario Hospital Association. He was also member of the Ontario Real Estate Association and auditor for the United Way.

Despite Gerry’s achievements, he was a humble, caring, genuine person who lived life with a strong ethical and moral code. He and Dolores loved to travel and explored the world in their retirement. He got great satisfaction in researching his family roots back to the their origins in Ireland and Scotland and then making that trip in person connecting with newly found relatives. .

He found great joy at the family cottage on the Upper Rideau. When he wasn’t enjoying a rum & coke and a good basketball game, Gerry was swinging a hammer in his latest renovation project. He held those memories close to his heart, as we do. He will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

Our family would very much like to thank the 5A floor and palliative care teams at the Civic Hospital for their patience, humour and care.

On Saturday March 9, 2024, the family will receive guests starting at 11 a.m. until time of Memorial Mass at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Kanata, (20 Young Road, Kanata, Ontario) Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry’s name to the Ottawa Civic Hospital (https://ohfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/) or St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Kanata (https://stpaulshk.org/give/. )
