Sad to share that after only 19 short years, we have lost our beautiful boy. Gabriel Nisbet Evenson passed away July 24, 2022 from natural causes. Gabe will be dearly missed by his parents, James and Stephanie, and brother, Trenton. Survived by his loving grandparents, Michael and Zenithe, as well as his uncle and aunt, Michael (pre-deceased) and Maria, cousins Michael and Emily, his aunt and uncle, Roxanne and Anthony, cousins Rachel and Neil, and his uncle Derek, and cousin William. Gabe had a large extended family who are equally heartbroken at his loss, along with his many acquaintances, friends, and colleagues.
Gabe's life was never an easy one - he had open heart surgery at six weeks of age, as well as other surgeries and ongoing care for various chronic medical issues. Regardless of this, Gabe met life head on with a smile and a fierce curiosity for all around him. He overcame many of his physical challenges and persevered, building a life for himself. Gabe had a passion for people, politics, history, and cars. He was open and engaged and left a huge and lasting impression on everyone he met.
Gabe started working as a custodian with the OCDSB while still in high school. Post-graduation, he was able to continue his work with the board, expanding the number of schools that he had worked for and skills that he learned. Gabe spent a year as a Covid cleaner at Stonecrest and was a much beloved fixture in the school, where he would decorate his cart for any and all events and was constantly caring and fussing over the staff and students to make sure that everything was perfect for them.
Gabe was well-known in the Carp community that he loved passionately - and who passionately loved him back. Gabe had a gigantic social circle who we know are hurting - our wish at this point is to try as best we can to ease their suffering.
Gabe's Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 6 with a church service scheduled for 11:30am at Kanata United Church - 33 Leacock Drive, Kanata, ON, followed by a reception at the Carp Agricultural Hall - 3790-3832 Carp Rd, Carp, ON K0A 1L0 - 1:30pm - 4:30pm.
