Pestka – Florence Joan Miriam "Joan" (nee Potter)
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Born on June 11, 1928 in Huntsville, ON to parents Ethel and Tom Potter. Beloved wife of the late John Pestka. Predeceased by sisters Vera Gray (Harvey) and Sena Snowden (Cecil) and by nephew Terry Gray.
Joan graduated from Huntsville High School and attended North Bay Teachers College. Her first teaching position was in Timmins where she met and married Raymond Boulanger (deceased). She moved to the Ottawa area to continue her teaching career. In Ottawa she met and married John Pestka on Feb28 1960. The final years of her teaching, she assumed Vice Principal duties for assigned hours in her teaching week. She proudly acknowledged that she taught every single year of her 40 year teaching career. Joan was a longstanding member of Carleton Golf and Yacht Club where she was a past president. She was also a member of the Liberal Women’s Group of Nepean.
Joan is survived by her niece Janet Gray. She is also survived by great niece Kelly Gray-Robinson and great nephews Tom Gray and Chris Gray, as well as great great nieces and nephews Paige Levitt, Zach Levitt, McKenzie Gray, Amy Gray, Jason Gray, Tyler Gray, and Sienna Gray
We will miss Joan’s keen intellect and her vibrant energy. Joan had a strong love for her birthplace Huntsville and she will be interred at Huntsville Cemetery.

on Friday, November 23rd from 2:30 -4:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church, on Saturday, November 24th at 11 am.
