McEwan, Fiona Jean
It had been a long and well lived life when Fiona Jean McEwan passed away early March 18 th , 2015 at the age of 89. Retired in the late 90's Fiona had a varied career. Graduating in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 1948, she started in the Emergency ward in Worcester. She accompanied her husband, Donald to Canada in 1954 and settled in Cornwall. Motherhood followed in 1958 and 1963 and Fiona stayed at home. Once the kids were old enough work beckoned. The first job back was with the Child Development Centre. The longest years were with Veterans Affairs in the Neuropsychiatric Division, when that position moved to PEI, Fiona stayed in Ottawa with Canada Pension Plan and finally retired there. Times not working were spent at the cottage and traveling especially on Wine Tours. Lots of time spent exploring the arts and doing amateur theatre, all with the late Donald McEwan, her best friend. She is survived by her brother Pat Holder of Nottingham, England, her daughter Ann of Smiths Falls and son Hamish (Patty) and grandson Emmett of Toronto. When everything was said and done, there was one last scotch, some quiet reflection and then as per her mantra, Fiona ‘shut up and got on with it'. Many thanks to the staff and residents at Amica (Westboro), for their care and companionship over the last 2 years and to the Doctors and staff at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus in Emergency and on the 5 th Floor over the last few days. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd. (at Roosevelt), on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation www.ohfoundation.ca and TVO www.tvo.org would be appreciated.
