Murray - Ernest (Ernie) Reginald, Professional Engineer
Ernie died suddenly in hospital on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in his 90th year. He was married for 66 years to the love of his life Joan (O'Neill) and was the loving and proud father of Lynn, Maureen, Kate (Marshall Leslie), Paul (Joan Kennedy), Mary Pat Baldwin (John), Anne Irwin (Kevin), and John (Dominique). He was also the loving and doting grandfather of Conor, Justin, and Scott Pommerville, David and Maura Leslie, Robert Murray, Chris, Jennifer and Emily Baldwin, Trevor, Andrew and Melanie Irwin, Cameron, Shannon and Sean Murray. Ernie loved his children but especially his grandchildren; he lived to teach his grandchildren poker, crib, bridge, politics and engineering solutions, especially the slide rule. He enjoyed many summers at Danford Lake surrounded by his family. Ernie was born in the Gaspe and raised in Quebec City. He was a determined individual who put himself through school, starting St. Francis Xavier University at the age of 16 and receiving his engineering degree from Nova Scotia Technical College (now Dalhousie University Engineering School), graduating second in his class. He played varsity hockey at St. FX winning a national university championship and played for Sherbrooke in the old Quebec Hockey League. He was a 40-year employee of Canadian International Paper retiring as Chief Engineer. He had a lifelong passion for politics both as an organizer and as a former elected member of council and deputy mayor of South Hull. Ernie was a committed volunteer for many organizations including school councils, sporting teams, Youville Centre and most recently as a member of his condo board. He was the youngest child of the late Stella (O'Connor) and Gabriel Murray, brother of the late O'Connor, Justin and Carmen Murray and the much loved brother-in-law of Marianne Purves, Paul O'Neill (Linda) and Maureen O'Neill and the late Terry, Thomas "Windy" O'Neill, Barbara Feola and Rita Tipping. Friends may attend a visitation at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., NepeanOn Saturday September 26th from 3 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 27th from 1 to 5 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 11 am on Monday, September 28th. In lieu of flowers donations to Youville Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
