Suddenly at home on Monday, January 30, 2023 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Eleanor (Wilson).  Wonderful father to Kimberly Speers (Blayne) and Jeffrey.

Brother of Edna McKay (Lloyd), Sheila Coulter and Hannah D'Angelo. Predeceased by sisters Helen Cassidy, Alice Publicover, Kathleen Warren, Dorothy Smith, Lois Murfitt and brothers Harold, Irwin, Arthur, Melville, and Kenny Kirkham.

Born in Richmond, ON, Eric grew up on the family farm on what is known as Soldiers Line. He and Eleanor met in 1957 and married on September 26, 1959. Together they built their home in 1961 where they raised their family and have lived for 62 years.

One of Eric’s greatest joys was his work with Ontario Hydro. He thoroughly enjoyed chatting with his customers on his meter reading routes. He started his Hydro journey on Merivale Rd in Nepean, and transferred to Arnprior in 1965, where he retired after 37 ½ years of service.

For many years Eric owned and operated Richmond Sanitation as well as being a member of the Richmond Volunteer Fire Department.

What most people will remember about Eric is his giving nature. He was a pillar of the community. He continually helped his family, his friends, and his community including St. Paul’s United Church, where he and Eleanor have been congregation members for many years.

Eric could most often be seen outside tending to his yardwork where he would wave at all the honking passersby. He was fortunate to be able to look after his home until his final day.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Richmond Volunteer Firefighters.

Friends may attend a visitation at St. Paul's United Church, 3452 McBean St, Richmond, ON on Saturday, February 11th from 11:30 am until time of memorial service at 2:30 pm. A reception will follow at Richmond Legion.
