Emma Robe
September 27, 1945 - April 21, 2015
Survived by her devoted sister, Jackie Smith of St. John's, Newfoundland, her adored cat Buttons, and all her friends in her community of Hintonburg. Emma was born in Sicily and was brought to England by her father, a Royal Navy seaman at the end of the WWII as a baby. She immigrated to Canada shortly after her sister, in 1963. She married Rick Allen (deceased), a US Navy member in the 1970s and moved to the US. She returned to Canada in 1982. Emma was a creative and very talented floral designer. She had a passion for old roses and anything to do with gardens. Her unique ‘Teacup Garden' at 123 Stirling Avenue which she created over a period of 15 years was a renowned Hintonburg place to visit. Emma was a thoughtful, generous, and kind woman who despite many difficulties throughout her life persevered to the end. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial will be held for her in September at a date yet to be announced. Thanks to the staff at Tubman Funeral Homes, to Dr. Tonja Stothart for her kindness and help and to Mimi Golding. Donations in Emma's memory can be made to the Ottawa Humane Society or to the Psychiatric Survivors' Association of Ottawa.
