Elsie Woodard

June 11, 1921 – August 4, 2024

With sadness, our family announces the peaceful passing of our mother, Elsie (nee Patterson) on August 4, 2024 at age 103, in Nepean. She was predeceased by her husband, Alton, and leaves behind their children Peter (Nicole), David (Ivy), Heather (Craig) and Donald (Marina), grandchildren Emily, Christine, Lisa, Sarah, Leanne, Ashley, Andrew and Victoria and almost a dozen great-grandchildren and nieces.

Elsie was born and grew up in Montreal. She had many fond memories of her time there. She enjoyed close friendships and activities with them in the surrounding countryside. She also joined the workforce there at a young age.

She married in 1949 and with her husband, Alton, began to grow their family in 1950. When the time came, she enjoyed being “Grandma” to her grandchildren.

Over the years, Elsie was active, enjoying skiing, cycling, swimming, and gardening. She also was a voracious reader and an avid bridge player. She was also a long time member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lachine, QC as well as Parkwood Presbyterian Church in Nepean, ON.

During the last six months of her life, Elsie lived at the Peter D Clarke Home in Nepean. She was happy there and staff have remarked upon how she brought light and humour into the Home.

A graveside ceremony to mark her passing was held at Pinecrest Cemetery on August 6, 2024, with the assistance of Tubman Funeral Homes. Donations can be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.
