Elsie Margaret "Poppy" Turney (née Cowtan)

Peacefully passed away at the New Orchard Lodge on Monday, November 23 , 2015. Born on November 10, 1919, she was predeceased by Gordon, her loving husband of 68 years, her parents Charles and Alice Cowtan, sisters Mary and Alice and brothers Tom, Stan and Albert. A caring and consummate homemaker she was an active military spouse and after Gordon's retirement they enjoyed square and round dancing and camping in the Rideau Lakes where they often hosted friends and family. She was a cherished mother to Michael (Barbara) of Nova Scotia and Peter of Ottawa, and a caring grandmother to Christopher and Kayte. Poppy will be missed by her brothers Bill (Barbara) of Ottawa and Dave of Picton, her sister Phyllis of Toronto and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road at Roosevelt Avenue , at 10 a.m. on November 30th for a visitation and Memorial Service in the chapel at 11a.m. Reception to follow. Inurnment will be at Christ Church Cathedral at 9:30 a.m. on 1st December. The family has requested that in place of flowers, you may make a donation to the Ottawa Humane Society or the charity of your choice .
