Elizabeth Bowes Hightower

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Bowes Hightower on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the young age of 69. Elizabeth leaves behind her husband of 35 years Gerry Bourque, her daughter Rebecca (Joe), her sister Sharon (Ben), and brother Drew (Jo-Ann). She was also Aunt Daydee to her many nieces and nephews and will be missed by her large extended family. She is pre-deceased by her parents Laura (nee Bowes) and Walter Hightower.

Elizabeth was born in Pembroke, ON and lived on many air force bases throughout her childhood as an army brat. She attended the University of Western Ontario where she obtained a degree in sociology which she put to good use working for the federal government in the department of CIC for many years.

Elizabeth was an avid cook, baker, collector of all things useful and decorative. She loved spending time at the cottage in Westmeath on the Ottawa River and shopping with her friends and daughter. She enjoyed camping, crocheting, reading, visiting family on the East coast and making friends, neighbours, co-workers and family feel loved with her famous holiday candy wreathes and Christmas baking. Elizabeth had an infectious laugh and welcomed any and all into her home.

A memorial reception will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes - Garden Chapel (3440 Richmond Rd, Ottawa, ON) on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 4-6pm. Words of remembrance to begin at 5pm. There will be an opportunity for family and friends to share a memory of Elizabeth should they choose.
