Elizabeth (Betty) Green

June 3, 1939 – August 24, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Green (nee Guthrie). Betty passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 24, 2024, at the age of 85.

Betty was born in Almonte, Ontario on June 3, 1939 and lived in Tatlock before moving to a farm outside of Lanark, Ontario. One of six children, Betty was raised by her father and mother, James and Lila Guthrie. Betty was little sister to Archie, Muriel, Blanche, Floyd and Glen. Beloved mother to Stephen and Don and devoted Nana to Taylor, Robert, Rebecca, Lachlan, Isla and Wilder. Aunt Betty to her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Green. Betty loved her family unconditionally and was always loyal in her support, constantly offering advice and celebrating their accomplishments proudly.

The Guthrie family motto is Sto Pro Veritate which means “I stand for the truth”. Betty embodied that motto, always honest in all facets of her life, with a passion for justice and fair-dealing with family, friends, colleagues and everyone she met.

Betty lived in Nepean most of her life and she also worked for the City of Nepean for many years before retiring and later working for various retailers where she loved interacting with people and making friends. She was smart, hard-working and proudly independent, never wanting to be a burden to others. Above all else, she loved to talk and to laugh. Her loquacious spirit will be missed by all of those who had the privilege to love her.

There will be a short grave-side service at the Guthrie Cemetery in Clayton, Ontario on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
