After a week-long family vigil at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ed passed away on August 25th. He was a devoted husband of 65 years, a constant caring father, and a brilliant mechanical engineer.
Ed leaves his beloved wife and companion, Lola Tucker, and their cherished children, Michael, Laurie, and John. Also mourning his loss are son-in-law, John Koensgen, and four adored grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christopher Tucker, and Jonathan and Lucas Koensgen. Ed will be remembered by Tucker family members across the country, fondly recalled by Rosemary Brown of Victoria, and deeply missed by in-laws, Richard and Doreen Mignault of Montreal.
Ed was born and raised in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. He broke with tradition by leaving the farm to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Ed began his career at Dominion Engineering in Montreal where he met Lola. After positions at General Electric in Toronto and a steam turbine firm in Connecticut, Ed joined the federal government where he served at Industry, Trade and Commerce and External Affairs. His career was rich with innovation and international travel. In his retirement Ed was a freelance designer at Lee Valley Tools. He conceived and perfected the Tucker Vise, winner of Popular Mechanics' design-engineering award.
Ed was a gentleman of kindness, ingenuity and grace. He will be greatly missed. Details of his memorial service will be announced at a later date.
