Edward Smith, passed peacefully at the St. Patrick’s Home, Ottawa, in his 91st year.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Charlotte (née MacDonald). Edward leaves behind his beloved wife, Nicole Floris-Smith.
Edward was one of seven siblings, growing up in Ottawa after their parents emigrated from Scotland and England.
At the age of 20, Edward joined the Royal Canadian Navy and had a successful five years before leaving to pursue his career in telecommunications at External Affairs. Edward would go on to have a decade long, fulfilling role with External Affairs that led him to travels all over the world. He even spent time living in such beautiful places as India, London, and Brussels and Paris.
It was in Brussels that Edward met the love of his life, Nicole. They loved to travel and loved the company of their dogs. Edward was rarely seen without a gorgeous German Shepherd by his side.
Through his dedicated time at External Affairs, Edward accrued many accomplishments and held many titles. His early years saw him hold the role of Communicator in Ottawa, Brussels, Kuala Lampur, New Delhi, Santo Domingo, and Oslo. He would move on to be a Supervisor in New Delhi, Ottawa, and Paris, then Manager of Telecom Operations in Ottawa. Finally taking on the roles of Head of Comcentres for London, Head of Comcentres NATO in Brussels, Head of MITD in Ottawa, and lastly Head of Comcentres in London until the end of his career.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Saturday, April 20th, at 11a.m. at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd, Ottawa. A service will take place at 12p.m.
