Earl Bruce Rigby 1925-2018

With heavy hearts we announce that Earl (Pappy) Rigby died suddenly in his home on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, following a long life lived to the fullest. He is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Marian Rigby, and leaves behind his daughters Muriel (Joe Potter) and Joyce (Bill Smith), four grandchildren Nancy Labelle (Pat), Paul Winford (Isabelle Caron), Mike Potter (Luigina) and Lisa Potter (Cory Anderson), as well as twelve precious great-grandchildren.

Earl was born in Saskatchewan where he is survived by his brother Eric Rigby, and predeceased by his sisters, Joan McCusker and Diane Storey. He worked for 35 years with Canada Post, starting in Saskatoon and ultimately in the Audit Department at Headquarters in Ottawa. Following his retirement in 1980, he became the Secretary Manager of the Ottawa Valley Curling Association, a position he held for ten years until he and Marian began to spend their winters in Arizona.

Pappy was a life-long athlete, with a passion for all sports, but particularly for curling, where he competed frequently in the National Post Office Championships as well as in many local and regional competitions. He was an Emeritus member of the Governor General's Curling Club (inducted in 1987), a club that recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to curling during their lifetime. Pappy was also an avid golfer, being a member of the Hylands Golf Course in Ottawa and then the North Golf Course in Sun City, Arizona.

Throughout Pappy's life, his family was his pride and joy and he made all of us feel loved and special.

A celebration of life will be held on Father's Day, June 17, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Camelot Golf Course, 906 Quigley Hill Road, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, the Canadian Hearing Society or the Arthritis Society of Canada would be appreciated. Condolences, tributes and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
