Douglass Kerr

March 22, 1942 — January 3, 2018

Passed away peacefully at Peter D. Clark nursing home, knowing that his son and daughter were in his presence at the age of 75. He was the son of Gordon and Mina Kerr, brother of Gerald Kerr (predeceased), beloved son-in-law of Catherine and Talmage Gray (both predeceased), loving brother-in-law to Judith Richardson and Elizabeth Wesely, proud uncle of Andrew and Jane Wesely, devoted husband of Jean Kerr (predeceased), and cherished father of Donald and Catherine Kerr. Doug and Jean moved to Bell's Corners in 1977 with their two young children, where they established many great friendships in the community over the years. He was a hard-working man, and a very loving and dedicated husband and father. He always made time for his family, and was happy to get involved in their interests and organizations to show his support. While somewhat of a contemplative introvert, he was always quick to lend a hand or some muscle to anyone in need. His other interests included fishing with his brother Ger and their friends from childhood, growing ginseng with his friend Steve, solving the world's problems with his good neighbor and best buddy Don, enjoying his quiet coffees, and reading an endless stream of pocketbooks. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about five years after he retired, and after the heavy loss of his wife Jean in 2012 he spent his remaining years in retirement/nursing homes under the loving supervision of his kids Don and Cathy. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (at Bayshore Drive). A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Bells Corners United Church, 3955 Old Richmond Road. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
