Dougherty – Douglas Roy
Douglas Roy Dougherty, 93 of Ottawa passed away peacefully on September 4, 2022 holding the love of his life, Margaret’s hand, and was surrounded by family. Doug was born on May 24, 1929 to Charles & Robina in Winnipeg. Doug, with a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Manitoba, had a long career teaching high school mathematics and computers. Doug loved to jog & coach basketball and was a passionate chess player, ranking in the top 100 in Canada.
In 1962, he met Margaret, and they wed in 1967 and had 2 children, Andrea and David. Doug’s family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was determined to provide for them and give them the life he felt they deserved. He was unendingly proud of Andrea, David & Margaret and always did his best to support them. Anyone who knew Doug knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Charles & Robina, brother Gordon, brothers-in-law John & Jim & sister-in-law Rona. Doug is survived by his wife Margaret, children Andrea & David, daughter-in-law May, sister Ruth, sister-in-law Carol, nephews – Jim, John, Jimmy, Alan, Ronnie & Danny and nieces Deborah, Cathy, Jamie, Debbie, Heather & Dianna, and his special cousin Dorothy.
There will be a celebration of life reception on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 2:30-4:30 at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel at 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore & Baseline).
