It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Douglas Wallace, peacefully in hospital on Monday, August 19, 2024, in his 84th year.
Doug was born on May 28, 1941, in North Gower. He was a loving husband of Barbara (Cartier) and previously Joan Ann (Workman), proud father to Michael (Alison), and the late David (Patty), and cherished stepfather to Kristen (Nick), Devin (Janet). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Hayley, Josh, Morgan, Ethan, Reid, Ozzy, Frances, Kate (Mike), Mackenzie and Charlotte. Doug is also survived by his brothers Ed (Heather) and Howard (Kyra) and very special cousin Anne (Jim). Doug was also a proud uncle to Jonathan (Caroline), Andrew (Dana) and Matthew (Lianne). He will also be missed by numerous cousins and many very close dear friends. When you were on the “call list” you were there for good.
Doug was a lifelong teacher and had a significant impact on many of his students and faculty who remained close with him up until his last days. Outside of work, he found himself in all the small towns he grew up in looking for the next treasure whether it be a garage sale or auction. When he needed advice or support to repair something, he would always look to his dear friends Bill and Trent.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, August 26th at 11:00am at Rideauvale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doug Wallace’s memory to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation https://www.kdhfoundation.ca/
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Kemptville District Hospital and Bayfield Manor for their exceptional care and support during Doug's final days.
