Dorothy was born in Cochrane Ontario, a strong northern girl. She was a force of nature, the matriarch of the family, lovingly supporting and taking care of her mother, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She began her working career at an early age, cleaning homes, babysitting neighborhood children and setting pin curls for the local ladies. As a young girl, she ran the concession booth at the Robert Simpson Park in Arnprior where she was famous for her strongly brewed coffee. She worked as a cashier in the cafeteria at the Civic Hospital for many years. In her day, she was one of the highest selling Tupperware reps. in the Ottawa area. At least that's what she said!
Dorothy loved the theatre, especially musicals, displaying her thespian talents acting in many plays. She sang with the Bells and Beaus choir, performing in seniors homes for many years. She organized senior bus trip outings and was a key supporter of the Notre Dame Ottawa Family Cinema club, volunteering her time in providing free entertainment for low income families. She was an avid swimmer and prolific artist, creating and teaching ceramics. She loved Halloween, dressing up for the kids and daring them to perform for their treats, and most recently won cutest costume at the Thorncliffe Halloween party just last year.
She was the heart and soul of our family and will be greatly missed. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Dorothy on Saturday December 7th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tubman Funeral Home 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean Ontario K2H 8H7. Words of remembrance will be held at 3:30 p.m.
