Dorothy Muriel Johnson
April 17, 1921 – September 10, 2019
A writer of verse, a weaver of hangers, a Fun-Singer, and a baker of the most delicious cinnamon buns, Dorothy Muriel Johnson passed away peacefully in Ottawa at 98 years old. Born in Mannville to Cleland and Ruby Swain, Dorothy or Dimp as she was fondly called, was the last sibling to pass. Leaving before her were sisters Myrtle Davis, Rosetta Arnold, Lucille Hughes, Nellie Whitson, Neva Batt and Ethel Hawley less than a month ago; as well as brothers, Harold, Clarence, and Cleland Swain. Dimp was predeceased by her husband Mirrel with whom she farmed, and her sons Leonard and Kenneth. Sadly, she was also predeceased by her grandson Graeme Johnson.
Dimp is fondly remembered by her daughter of choice, Janice (Mike) Hustad grand-children Renee (Roger) Bosdorf, Neil Johnson (Michell Fung), Andrea Johnson (David Little), Graeme’s widow Ewa Johnson, Trevor Hustad (Keeley Runnalls) and Jordan Hustad. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Katherine, Mikayla, Alexandra, Henry, Sydney, and Ben. Dimp shared her kindness with so many other people, too many to list.
A memorial service will be held in Ottawa at Rideau Place Retirement Residence on Sunday, September 15 at 1pm, followed by a Memorial Service at McQueen Memorial United Church in Mannville, Alberta on Saturday, September 21st at 2pm. A private interment will follow. In honour of Dimp, please wear your brightest clothing to celebrate her life…preferably red.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Chartwell Rideau Place Retirement Residence who made her feel at home during her last years, and to her doctor Christina Kwan who showed her such kindness.
