Condie, Dorothy (née Clingin)
Peacefully at Manotick Place Retirement Residence on Friday, October 20, 2023, age 101 years. Beloved wife of the late Scott Condie. Adored Mother of Deborah and her husband Ron Toy. Much loved Gran of Tim and Kim Schrader and Jay Toy and Genevieve Bouchard. Dear Great Gran of Hannah Jones and Callum Schrader. Cherished by her sister Audrey Mather and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews and very special friends. Our hearts are full of happy memories.
Dorothy grew up on the Clingin Farm outside Kars with her five sisters and two brothers. She was determined to pursue a career as a teacher and she became a very fine one, caring for and nurturing the education of children in Kars and Osgoode . Once a farmer’s daughter, she then became a farmer’s wife with Scott. She continued her teaching career at Limebank, Rideau View and Manotick Public Schools.
Dorothy was good at so many worthwhile pastimes. Her hand sewn quilts keep the family warm, her knitted and crocheted afghans are nothing less than works of art and a lot of wee babes went home from hospital with one of Dorothy’s tiny knitted toques. Hers were the best apple pies, and her gardening produced more jams and preserves than our little family could eat. Above all, she knew how to have fun. A dandy euchre and scrabble player, she could also ace the sudokus and crosswords.
