Bell – Ruth (Doris)
1933 - 2023
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, surrounded by her four children. Loving wife of the late Bob Bell (2017), cherished mother of Kathy (Chris), Greg (Beverley), Marsha (Randy) and Jan (Paul). Much loved grandmother of Kyle (Whitney), Kimberley (Reece), Kelly, Jenna, Kristina (Lee), Emily (Trever), Mathew (Meagan), Samantha, Dan, Jason (Hanbin) and Jennifer, and great-grandmother of Olivia, Margaret, Chloe, Maddy, Lilly, Isabelle, Aubrey and Reese.
Ruth’s life was defined by faith and family. After growing up on her family’s farm at Fairmile on the Rideau, Kemptville, Ruth trained as a teacher at Ottawa’s Teachers’ College and taught at several local schools. Her passion for teaching and her belief that there was always good to be found in the world was reflected not only in the classroom but in how she nurtured her children, her grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren. An active member of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kars for over 65 years, Ruth taught at Sunday school and was an active member of the Ladies Aid and was made an Honorary Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society. As well as volunteering at the Church, Ruth was a 4H Homemaker Club Leader and helped with many aspects of Community life.
Family life on the North Gower farm that she and Bob shared for more than 50 years was full of fun, love and endless opportunities to learn: picnics in the cedar bush, tobogganing on the hill and making the annual Christmas cake are all fond memories to be cherished. She will be greatly missed by the whole family and all her dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at St Andrew’s Presbyterian church, Kars on Monday, November 13th at 1pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kars or Elmview Cemetery would be appreciated.
