Donald Leybourne Hugo Davidson passed away peacefully at Riverpark Place on January 30, 2014, aged 85. He was born December 13, 1928 in Secunderabad, India. He will be sorely missed by sons Alexander "Sandy" (Gayle Caines Davidson) and Keith (Kelley Baker), and grandchildren Crystal (Brett Lyle), Jessica (Eric Beaudry), and Michael. He was predeceased by parents Major-General FHN Davidson and Edna Mildred "Jane" Counsell of England, brother Michael RL Davidson of England, and wife Barbara. Don moved to Vancouver, Canada after a term in military intelligence following World War II, and on November 4, 1955 married Barbara Ansley Seymour (May 5, 1929-February 11, 2003) of Vancouver. He became a chartered accountant, joined the public service after several years in private industry, and ended his career in Ottawa in 1985 as Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Legislation Branch, Revenue Canada Taxation. He was a competitive sailor (Canadian champion Cygnus; Shark), and with Barbara was an excellent bridge and badminton player, and a tennis champion at the Britannia Yacht Club. Interests in birding led to weekly field naturalist outings in the greater Ottawa area and visits throughout the world on birdwatching trips. He also volunteered at the Museum of Nature and at the equestrian centre helping disabled children ride horses. Visitation will be at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt), on Tuesday, February 4 th from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m. No service will be held, but there will be a further opportunity for informal visitation on Saturday February 8 from 2 to 4 at a family home (contact funeral home for details).
