David Watts

DAVID BRIAN WATTS
June 10, 1952-January 9, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Brian Watts on January 9th, 2023 at his beloved home in Ottawa South. Cherished son of Jean Terhune, he will be lovingly remembered by his sister Cathy McKim (Andy), his niece and nephew Robin and Trevor and his “little” brother Yancy Craig (Kayt).

Always an intrepid traveller,  Dave was eagerly anticipating an upcoming trip to Costa Rica where he and his dear cat Lilly loved to overwinter. Any day with an adventure on the horizon was a great day for them.

David has always felt immense gratitude to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute that provided him with such excellent care and so many bonus years to do the things that he loved: spending time with good friends and family, travelling the world, enjoying cottage life and his many watercraft. Throughout his life he also found much joy in flying, diving, music, theatre, good food and fine wine with friends. Sailing and sunsets at the BYC were especially enjoyed.

His professional and volunteer ventures also brought David interesting challenges and immense satisfaction.  David’s IT career began at Transport Canada in 1971 and continued at Customs and Excise/Revenue Canada and various other federal government departments as a consultant through various companies. Eventually, he was a founding member and the managing partner of The Devon Group Ltd for more than 30 years, which included the startup of KyberPass. In later years, Dave became an associate of TPG where he finished out his career. He held various board roles including with GORA, BYC and other small business associations. He always enjoyed sharing his professional expertise.

A funeral service and reception for 'Captain' Dave will be held at Tubman's Westboro Chapel on Tuesday Jan 24 .Visitation at 9:30 followed by service at 10:00 and reception at 11:00 AM.
