David Hughes Garred

David passed away on Friday, November 22nd, 2013 in his 85th year. Beloved husband for 37 years of Joyce Garred (née Carruthers). Survived by his daughter Victoria (Frank Lapointe), his son Peter (Sandra Kayem) and his grandchildren Julie, Philip, Sarah and Dave. Predeceased by his parents Raymond Garred and Dorothy Taunton Garred and his brother John. David had a lengthy career in Montreal in the pulp and paper industry during which time he was President of the Young Men's Section of the Montreal Board of Trade and later Chairman of the Boxboard trades section of the C.P.P.A. Upon retirement he and his wife settled in Ottawa. He became an author, publishing 4 books. He sought out and restored Canadian pine furniture. In his seventies he won several golf championships. He served on council and as Rector's Warden at St. John's Anglican Church. Visitation will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, 325 Sandhill Road, Kanata on Friday, November 29th, from 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of David's Life at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
