Dalton Read

Dalton Read passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, in his 83rd year at the Civic Hospital, surrounded by family. He was the only child of the late Kathleen (Kay) and Howard Read. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie (nee Moore) of nearly 57 years, his 3 loved sons, Steve (Carrie), Kevin (Elaine) and Mike (Jodelle) and his adored grandchildren Tyler and Megan, Liam and Emma, and Vanessa, Thomas and Ashlyn. He is also survived by several cousins and long-time friends.

Dalton had a passion for education and teaching. He was a popular teacher and Vice Principal in the Ottawa Board then later the Carleton Board before retiring in 1997, teaching mainly intermediate math. He loved sports, coaching school teams in various sports and baseball at Pinecrest Little League while his sons were playing. Later in life, he loved attending any sporting event that his grandchildren were participating in. His Parkinson’s diagnosis didn’t slow him down from being at hockey games, baseball games, golf tournaments, dance competitions, holidays, and birthdays.

There is nothing Dalton loved more than spending time with friends and family and slipping a joke into every conversation. He was always proud of his grandchildren’s educational milestones and always looked forward to hearing about their accomplishments.

He and Marge lived on Southwood Drive for 51 years before moving to Park Place Retirement Facility in 2019. He made many friends with the staff and residents at Park Place and his family thanks them for the compassionate care he received.

It won't be the same without his humour, his smile, and his many phone calls. As he often signed off - "Bye for now!"

Visitations will take place at Tubman Funeral Homes-Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) Nepean,  on April 22, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A memorial service will take place on April 23 at 11am, followed by a reception and celebration of Dalton’s life. A private burial will take place at a later time.
