With heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of Alice Claire Knudson (née Pelton) on Sunday, November 10th, 2024. With family by her side at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Claire will be missed by Gary, her best friend and husband of 63 years, much loved daughters Tracey (Leo Paoletti) and Paige, and her adored grandchildren, Dana and Matthew. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Judy Knudson. Survived by her siblings, Charles Pelton and Kathryn Piche. Predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Minnie Pelton.
Claire grew up in Hyndman, Ontario, where her family ran a well-known cheese factory and general store. She attended Teacher’s College in Ottawa and began her career at 18 years old, teaching at several elementary schools in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. She was an active member of City View United Church and, in retirement, a volunteer at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Claire was an avid traveler, a passionate reader and loved hosting family dinners, holidays, and BBQs by the pool. A devoted friend, Claire enjoyed many good times with former teacher friends, fellow golf lovers, members of the Phoebe group at City View United Church, fellow volunteers at QCH, her soup & scrabble group, and “the Gang”.
Special thanks to the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Claire’s life will be held at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Reception to follow.
Donations may be made in Claire’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or City View United Church.
