“Life is wild enjoy every minute” Dave Cummings

It is with much love and great sadness that we say goodbye to Dave Cummings.  Dave is predeceased by his parents Dietta (nee Watson) and Charles David Cummings Sr, his sister Marilyn Cummings and the love of his life, his beautiful wife Elaine (nee Rothwell).  Dave will be heartbrokenly missed by his daughter Lori Ann, his son-in-law Charles and his grandchildren Ryan and Chelsea.  He will be deeply missed by his sister-in-law Joan, niece Debbie, husband Mike, great-nieces Jennifer and Amber.  Dave’s memory will live on through the many hearts he touched; extended family, lifelong friends North and south of the border, the Porch gang, the Breakfast Club, the nighttime hockey lads, neighbours and students.  Born in Ottawa, Dave spent a romantic lifetime in the City he loved.  He attended Mutchmor Public School, Glebe Collegiate Institute (GCI), Carleton University, McMaster University and University of Ottawa.  Dave loved playing and coaching a variety of sports. He led the Johnson Mercury Hockey team to success as well as Legion capitals, Junior Montagnards, St Jean Baptiste, GCI and McMaster.  In football, he was a two-way player who represented St Anthony’s juniors, GCI, Carleton U, McMaster U and was a great addition to coaching staff of the Ottawa Sooners.  In recent years Dave was inducted into the McMaster Hall of Fame for winning two Championships for two sports in the same year.  As a coach and Head of Physical Education at Glebe Collegiate till his retirement in 1995, he was fondly referred to as “Mr C” or Coach and firmly believed everyone had the potential to be extraordinary.

Dave met the love of his life Elaine on the day he was born.  Destiny had a plan for these two. As it happened, Dave and Elaine were born the same year, month, day and hospital.  This led Dave to comment how he married an older woman, even it was only by a few minutes.  The dynamic couple are once again reunited and as we say so long for now, there is comfort in knowing that they are once again dancing, listening to jazz and anticipating a life together in eternity.  The family would like to thank all the heroes who took extraordinary care of Dave during these unprecedented times.  Special mention to Dr Jetty and Dr D. Roberts of the Civic Hospital as well as Dr P. Mayer of Hamilton for going above and beyond for Dave. In lieu of flowers, Dave had many Charities that he donated to based on the people who had journeyed through his life.  You may view a Livestream of the graveside service by clicking on the link below on Saturday, June 5th after 1 pm.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date, once the provincial restrictions are lifted.  For those interested in attending, please email the family at forevercadillac@gmail.com    In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Arthritis Society, The  Heart and Stroke Foundation, Shepherds of Good Hope, The War Amps, or to L'Arche Ottawa.
