Cecile Theresa Simms (née Boudreau) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Ottawa, Ontario on December 8, 2017 at the age of 83. Cecile is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Clare; her five children Donald, Catharine, Robert (Janet MacMinn), Karen (Jeff Obukuro), and Mary (Jeremy Broadhurst); her ten grandchildren Richard, Matthew, Grant, David, Darryl, Abigail, Thomas, Deborah, Eleanor and Matilda; her brother Claude (Mary Lou) and her sisters Annette (Louis) Beaulieu and Paulette (Peter) Murphy and numerous treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John.
The eldest child of Donât and Hélène Boudreau, Cecile was born on May 11, 1934 in Kapuskasing, Ontario. She moved with her family to Port Hope, Ontario and then Terrace Bay, Ontario. After graduating from business school, Cecile worked at the Kimberley-Clark Pulp Mill where she met her future husband Clare. Cecile and Clare were married in 1955, soon after moved to Sarnia, Ontario, and eventually settled in Montreal, Quebec to raise their five children. In 1977, with most of the children gone from home, Clare, Cecile, and the youngest Mary left Canada to travel the world through Clare's work. Blessed with a love of all things beautiful and the gift of hospitality, Cecile made a warm and welcoming home everywhere they lived, including Henley-on-Thames, England; Toronto, Ontario; Los Angeles, California; Edmonton, Alberta; and Whangarei, New Zealand. Upon their return to Canada, Cecile and Clare retired to Prescott, Ontario and later Belleville, Ontario. They recently relocated to Ottawa, Ontario
Cecile was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a warm and welcoming person who easily made friends wherever she went. She lived a vibrant and active life, enjoying gardening, sewing, crafting, canning, bowling and, above all, getting together with friends and family. In her later years, she became an avid quilter and no major family event passed without the presentation of a new quilt.
Cecile passed away peacefully at the Park Place Retirement Residence where she had been receiving dedicated and compassionate care from the wonderful staff. Friends are invited at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Thursday, December 14 from 7pm to 9pm.
