September 12,1934 to September 21, 2024
We are deeply saddened to announce that Kit Pettigrew passed away September 21 at the Osgoode Care Center in Metcalfe, Ontario. Kit was a loving wife to Ken for over 70 years, a wonderful mother, and an attentive grandmother and great grandmother. In the latter years of her life, she bravely faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease,
Born in Kensington, Prince Edward Island to Art and Irene (Champion) Larkin, Kit met the love of her life in 1950 when Navy sailor Ken Pettigrew visited Prince Edward Island while on shore leave. Kit became a Navy wife and as their family grew, she ably managed the nomadic lifestyle required by Ken’s work.
Eventually settling down in 1966, their family – consisting of Wendy, Ken Jr., Dave and Shari -lived in Osgoode, Ontario where Kit worked with the Royal Bank, the Carleton School Board and the RCMP. As an active member of her community, Kit was a member of the Osgoode Legion, the United Church Women’s Institute and a regular volunteer at local community events.
For 50 years, Kit and Ken spent summers at their cottage in Malpeque, P.E.I. where she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a vital member of her community.
Kit is survived by Wendy of Vancouver, Ken Jr. (Lee-Ann) of Perth, Australia, David (Beth) of Vancouver and Shari Robinson (Greg) of Osgoode; her grandchildren Jeff, Jeremy, Jennifer (Pedram), Matthew (Bethany), Jonathan (Charlotte), Alyssa (Matt) and Sydney; her great grandchildren Adelaide, Emi, Joshua, Marcus, Ethan and Sebastian; her sisters Deanna Bryanton and Jean Mayhew both of Kensington, PEI; her sister-in-law Karen (Henry) Smith of Truro, N.S. and her many nieces and nephews in PEI and Nova Scotia. Kit was an incredibly energetic, capable and independent woman – always willing to tackle any job and give it her best. She loved to laugh and was passionate about baking, knitting and sewing.
Kit was loved by many and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at the Osgoode Legion Branch 589, 3284 Sunstrum St., Osgoode, Ontario on October 26 from 1-4pm.
