Neale, Caroline Jean
1924-2018
Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2018 after a full and satisfying life. Jean was one of seven children born to Roy and Rebecca Oatman of Cornell,ON. She is predeceased and now reunited with her husband, Max Neale (2003), her high school sweetheart, having shared 57 years of marriage. Jean is also predeceased by her infant son, Paul, and her brothers Blake,Wayne and Vern Oatman and granddaughter Catherine Hoiles. Jean’s early adult years were spent raising her daughters in Tillsonburg ON with summers at the cottage at Long Point. She was a member of the IODE and involved in the Girl Guide movement as well as enjoying bridge clubs. In 1964 she moved with her family to Haileybury ON where she continued her love of bridge and involvement with the IODE. There she was introduced to curling however it was the game of golf that became her passion. She was a member of the Haileybury Golf Club and not only enjoyed the challenge of the game but the wonderful friendships that she made. Jean relocated to Ottawa at the age of 84 taking up residence in Amica at Westboro Park where she once again established wonderful friendships. Her bridge playing continued and undaunted she learned to play solitaire on the computer as well as share emails with family and friends. It is a testament to Jean that she remained in touch with friends she grew up with as well as continued to develop meaningful friendships throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her devoted friend Mrs. Betty MacLeod. Mom is survived by 2 daughters; Marilyn Hoiles, Ottawa and Kathryn (Doug) Smallman, (Kamloops B.C)., 5 grandchildren: Geoff (Victoria B.C); Rob (Lacombe AB.); Kirk (Dina) Vancouver and Kim (Warren) Smallman (Kamloops) and Gerry (Hollie) Hoiles (Kingston ON) ; 10 great grandchildren, special Grandma Jean to Aidan and Caleb Milroy (Ottawa); 3 sisters Dola Davis (Collingwood ON), Doris Wells (Courtice ON) and Evelyn Alexander (Willy) (Stevenville , ON), brother in law Jack Neale (Lilian)( Tillsonburg ON), sister in law Dorthy Neale (Komaka,ON),sister in law Thelma Oatman (London ON) and numerous nieces and nephews. Although her family was spread far, and wide Mom was always interested in their lives. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her and forever missed. The family wish to thank each and every member of the staff at Amica at Westboro Park who made Mom’s last 10 years happy, healthy and loving. In the last year Mom received kind care from the Carefor PSWs as well as Jennifer of Maplecare Physiotherapy Clinic. Cremation has taken place and at the family request no funeral service will be held. Her ashes will lovingly be spread in the waters where Max and Catherine are also resting. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to a charity of your choice or Canadian Diabetes Association or Cancer Care Ontario.
