McClelland, Bryce Joseph
Peacefully on November 14, 2023, at the age of 92. Bryce was the beloved husband of the late Joan (née Carson) for 61 years. Son of the late Herbert and Susan McClelland. Brother to Verna and Bethel.
Supportive and proud father of Laurie (Mark), Neil (Kay), and Grant (Fiona). Loving grandfather to Philippe (Naomi), Kristen (Chris), Janelle (Shaun), Amanda (Chris), Elyssa (Chris), Tristan, Hugh, and Jane. Great grandfather to Rory, Jack, Nathan, and Myriam. Uncle to nephews Chris, David, and Ronald Carson, and niece Brenda Morrison.
Bryce attended Ottawa Technical High School and for a few years ran a service station in the 1950s on Richmond Road in Ottawa. His early career began in the machine shop at Ogilvy’s Department Store, and he went on to work at Rockcliffe Airport, Algonquin College, and the Civic Hospital before talking up a position at the Royal Ottawa Hospital where he worked for twenty-eight years, eventually becoming the Director of Environmental Services and retiring in 1991. Bryce was adept at fixing and repairing pretty much anything and he was always happy to help family and friends. He was caring and knowledgeable, had an excellent sense of humour, and was a great storyteller.
He was able to live independently in the house in which he was born right up to the last few months of his life. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Colonel By Residence and Idealcaregivers4u for the outstanding care they provided to Bryce.
The family will be having a private service. A celebration of Bryce’s life will be held sometime in the spring. Those wishing may make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in honour of his late wife Joan. Tributes, condolences and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
