Hollebone, Bryan
The Hollebone Family is sad to announce the passing of Dr. Bryan Ralph Hollebone, loving husband, proud father and grandfather. He died at home, Saturday evening March 4th. He is survived by his loving wife Jeannie Hollebone of 53 years, sons Bruce (Ellen MacIsaac), Eric (Wendy Curtis) and Ken (Cathy Ferris) and 4 grandchildren, Alex, Gillian, Meghan and Malcolm. He will be also missed by his brother Keith (Karilyn Rutherford) and his extended family, brothers-in-law John Thor (Carol) and Neil Arnason, nieces and nephews and friends. Bryan was a native of Ottawa, a proud descendant of Welsh stone masons who helped build the parliament buildings. He obtained an Hons BSc from Carleton University and a PhD from University College, London, England. He taught at York University, University of Alberta, finally returning to Ottawa to teach inorganic chemistry as a professor at Carleton University for many years. He continued as professor emeritus, to pursue his research post retirement into wastewater treatment. He was an active boater, and could be found on many summer days in his antique Dippy on the lakes and rivers of Ontario that he loved so much. Bryan was a collector/historian of early Canadian clocks. He helped restore heritage clocks, and was currently working with a colleague from the Ottawa Valley Watch and Clock Collectors Club on one of the earliest clocks made in Canada. Bryan had a life long association with Scouting. As a boy, he became a Queen's Scout and as an adult returned to scouting to lead the St. Basils' Sea Scout pack for many years with his boys. Many summers were enjoyed at the cottage, boating and canoeing around the lake where friends and family were always welcome. Friends are invited for visitation at Tubman Funeral Home Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa , for visitation on Monday March 20 between 7 and 9 pm and on Tuesday March 21 from 10 to 11 am, followed by the memorial service in the chapel at 11 am. Bryan was a strong supporter of helping young people reach their potential, always-encouraging enjoyment and learning about the outdoors. Donations in Bryan's memory would be appreciated to Christie Lake Kids, a program and camp for disadvantaged local youth (www.christielakekids.com) or to the Canadian Clock Museum 60 James Street, Deep River, ON K0J 1P0 .
