Brian was born and raised in old Ottawa East went to Ottawa schools, Carleton College, now Carleton University, then McGill University graduating with a professional degree in architecture in 1953. Returning to Ottawa he joined a large architectural firm, becoming a designer for many buildings mostly elementary and secondary schools for the Ottawa Boards of Education. He joined Earle Ingram in 1964 as Ingram and Pye Architects designing churches, various office buildings, and many schools; Earle retired in 1969 and Brian continued the Practice solely as Brian E. The Firm enjoyed a successful Practice designing many educational, civic, sports and commercial buildings in the greater Ottawa area. The Firm has continued on under the Pye and Richards name since the name partners have retired. Brian retired in 1994 and has enjoyed retired life with June, active in the community, and gardening on their ½ acre lot in South Gloucester. They had recently moved to Windsor Park Retirement Home in Ottawa after 60 years in their home. He was an ardent sportsman in his early years competing competitively in basketball, golf and curling, and casually in skiing and trout fishing. He continued golf, curling and downhill skiing until 2010. Both June and Brian were members of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club for over 50 years. They both looked forward to weekends and summer vacations camping when the family was young and were active birders, specifically building and managing birdhouses at home and along rural roads. Brian loved life, his Architectural Practice cultivating many friends in business and socially with June over a full and active life.
