It is with profound sadness that we must announce the sudden and unexpected passing of the unique and irrepressible Brant Scott on September 16, 2014. Brant was the truly devoted husband of his beloved and best friend, Susan (Presley) and the loving and immensely proud father of Graham (23) and Mary (21). He is pre-deceased by his parents, Robert Scott and Jule (Petman) and survived by his brother Gilbert (Barbara), sister Barbara (Ray), in-laws Charles and Joan Presley, brothers-in-law Michael (Carole), Sean (Tina) and a bevy of nieces, nephews and extended family who will long remember Barney as the guy who kept them laughing. Brant was a mischievous schoolboy in Grimsby, a precocious teenager and young man in Muskoka and a charismatic adult in Ottawa. He instilled and endowed a fierce and continuous loyalty among friends acquired along the way, some of which date back to primary school. Once Barney's friend: always Barney's friend. In high school, he once berated an English teacher (as only Brant could) about the lousy material he was being taught only to be challenged to write something better himself. So he did; and never stopped. Brant was "Scoop Scott" and editor for the much heralded Bracebridge Herald Gazette, served as Executive Assistant for several MP's on the Hill, wrote and edited for the telecommunications industry, edited judgments for the CRTC and did PR for various federal government departments. At the time of his death, he edited Between Us , a news magazine for the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, contributed to community newspapers and was Communications Director for the Canadian Shooting Sports Association. All of which paled to his true passions as a photographer and a rock and roll drummer. From his high school garage band, SouthPaw, through the Rochester Street and Hurricanes days of the eighties, his recent addition to the charity fundraising of the Verdict and to the various combos of friends and musicians with whom he jammed and shared drummer jokes, he pounded the tubs right up to the night before he passed away. To those he leaves behind, the loss is overwhelming and incomprehensible. To be deprived of his unique, self-deprecating humour, deliberately corny (and often repeated) one-liners, his steadfast faith in friends and family and his solid common sense opens a hole that cannot be filled. He will be missed beyond imagining. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Timothy's Presbyterian Church, 2400 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre would be sincerely appreciated.
