Bohdan Semchuk

November 29, 1933 — October 12, 2016

Semchuk, Bohdan (Bud) Carl

P.Eng., K of C. 4th degree. Fr. Reynolds Assembly

November 29th, 1933 - October 12th, 2016

Passed away peacefully in his sleep, with son Darren at his side, at the Elizabeth-Bruy&egravere Palliative Care Unit. Beloved husband and "Buddy" of Patricia. Predeceased by parents, John and Pearl Semchuk; and Sylvia Hryshko, mother of Natalie (Bill Lawson) and Tanya Williamson (Ted). Beloved stepfather to Lisa Poisson (Leo) of Stratham, New Hampshire; Darren Chomiak (Marianne) of Delta, British Columbia, Ivan Chomiak (Laurie) of Kanata, Ontario and Tamara Clarke of Oshawa, Ontario. Gido will be sorely missed by his thirteen grandchildren - Hadleigh, Jonah, Clayton and Elena Williamson; Theodore, Lindsey and Collette Poisson; Devin and Amy Chomiak, Kiersten and Noah Chomiak; Payden and Jordan Clarke. Gido was a big tease and enjoyed playing jokes on them. As Elena (age 6) said to Tanya, after visiting him in Hospice, "Gido isn't really sick, he's just joking!"

He will be missed by his Winnipeg family - brother George (Maxine), sister Eleanor Balacko (George) and numerous nephews and nieces. He is a great loss to special friends, Harry Kowalik and David Clarke.

Bud graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first position was the design work of the Edmonton International Airport, in 1957. Then joined the Federal Government Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, later Public Works. He retired in 1991, to enjoy life. He enjoyed golf, playing his violin with his late friend, Rene Stauch, a lot of travel to far-off places and cruising in his later life. He joined the pierogi-making session at the church, coveting his role as the "circle" maker. He spent a number of years as member of the Ottawa-Ukranian Golf Association (OUGA). Monthly breakfasts with Harry were cherished. Playing sequence with anyone, including family, friends and even "hooked" a few personal care workers to the game.

He was an active member of the K of C Council St. Vladimir #9557. He served 2 terms as a District Warden. He was also awarded a Medal for Valor from the Supreme Council, for the rescue of a neighbor who may have died, had Bud not responded to her cries for help. He was 10 years old.

Friends may attend a visitation at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Sunday, October 16th from 4 to 7 pm. There will be a panahyda service at 6:30.

Funeral Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine, 952 Green Valley Crescent, Ottawa at 11 am on Monday, October 17th. He will be cremated. Interment will be Wednesday, October 19th at 11 am at the Notre Dame Cemetery, beside Sylvia.
