One week shy of his 72nd birthday, Bill Luimes passed away peacefully on February 18, 2022 with his wife, Bonnie, by his side.
Bill was born to Gerrit and Hendrika Luimes shortly after they immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands. Growing up in the middle of 6 brothers and 1 sister, he learned to work hard and toe the line. The faith in Christ modelled by his parents became his own and carried him through to his very last day.
There was rarely a problem that Bill couldn’t solve. Whether in his occupation as a heavy duty equipment mechanic, his community or with complete strangers, he was the man with the solutions. Even when his body was weak, he could be found with his head under a vehicle’s hood.
Bill and Bonnie loved to travel together. If they weren’t travelling, he could be found pulling many people behind his boat up and down the Rideau River. Bill loved to meet new people and was quick to tell a story.
With over 20 years of chronic health problems, he was supported by many who prayed and walked beside him. He was grateful for his church community, friends and family support.
He will be missed greatly by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie (Rod) and Tracy (Ben). He was the proud Papa to Liam, Cole, Ezra, Owen, Silas, Sam and Theo. He will also be missed by his siblings Hank (Jane), Wilma (Al), John (Jeannie), sister-in-law Joyce, Tom (Greta), Albert (Carolyn), and Ed (Stephanie). Not to mention countless relatives who called him Uncle Bill. He was predeceased by his beloved brother Jack and sister Anna who passed away as a young girl.
