It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Valberg, on Monday August 26, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family after only five weeks of her beloved husband, Dr. John D. Valberg. Born in Cardinal, daughter of the late Wallace and Ella Workman and sister of the late Velma (Ray) and brother Floyd (Kitty). Survived by 3 caring daughters, Kim Valberg, Diane Valberg-Groulx (John Groulx) and Michelle Valberg (Scott MacLennan) and 4 grandchildren, David Munro, Kaitlyn Meilleur (Tyler), Jillian Groulx, Benjamin MacLennan and great grandchildren, Adam and Matthew Meilleur. Also survived by special niece, Gloria Purcell and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty graduated as a Registered Nurse at Kingston General Hospital in 1953, working mainly in the operating room and as a research assistant. She met the love of her life in his first year of University and they were married for 57 wonderful years. Betty fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a stewardess with Trans-Canada Airlines in 1955 and was on the inaugural flight of the Viscount aircraft. Betty was a Docent at the National Gallery of Canada where she gave tours for 22 years. She loved art and her artistic talents were reflected in her beautiful garden. She was passionate about swimming, tennis, golf, birding and spending time with her family. Betty was a member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club for over 40 years. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and caregivers that provided exceptional care in recent years. Memorial Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore Dr. and Baseline Rd.) on Wednesday August 28, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkdale United Church, 429 Parkdale Ave. on Thursday August 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Center or the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated
