With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of the beloved matriarch of the Boersma family, Bernice Carol Boersma (née Beddington), on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Bernice was the loving mother to Brian (Nicole) and Chandra (Ian), and a cherished Nana to Brayden, Jakob, Nathan, Ethan, and Zachary. These five grandsons were her greatest joy and source of pride.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Peter, her beautiful mother, Iowna, and her father, Roy. Bernice is survived by her adoring older brother, Roy (Roxanna). Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, on March 19, 1949, Bernice graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a degree in education and a specialization in history. She went on to have a long and rewarding career as an elementary school teacher with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board after relocating to Brampton, Ontario, with her family. Bernice touched the lives of many students and formed lasting bonds, including treasured lifelong friendships with her colleagues, especially "The Ladies of the Fish."
After retiring in 2012, Bernice dedicated her time to her grandsons, reading, day-tripping with Peter, and being the best cat mom ever to Princess Pepper.
She spent her final years living in Stittsville with her best friend and loving daughter and her family, frequently touring craft shows and farmers' markets, attending musicals and concerts, and trying her luck at the slots across Eastern Ontario.
You could often find her in her favorite chair, with Pepper on her lap, reading and re-reading books by her favorite author, Nora Roberts.
A service in Bernice's memory will be held at Tubman Funeral Home, 15 Rivington Street, Carp, ON K0A 1L0, on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a service at noon and a reception immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the Arthritis Society of Canada.
Forever loved, forever missed. We love you, Mom.
