May 19, 1920 – April 11, 2020
Peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2020, Barbara went to be with her Lord. She will be deeply missed by her children, Pat Irwin (Bill), Ian (Leslie Ann), Gill Anderson (Jim), Mike (Sharon), and Diana Fromow as well as her 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren who cherished her dearly.
Barbara was one of the last remaining British war brides. She is predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. David Fromow.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Barbara had wonderful memories of her childhood years in Britain that she would fondly recount to her children. At the outbreak of WW II, Barbara joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force in London, tracking incoming enemy aircraft across the English Channel. Life was hard and dangerous in those days but it also forged a tremendous strength of character. Post war, she emigrated to Canada with her husband, David, and their two young children, Pat and Ian. After numerous military postings in Canada and England and three additional children, the family settled in Manotick where she was part of the community fabric for the past 58 years.
Barbara’s focus was her family, a loving and selfless mother, an unassuming tower of strength always giving her best to her children. She will be deeply missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Ann Fillingham and the staff of Orchard Walk for their many years of loving care.
A family funeral service was held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean on Thursday, April 16, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church Accessibility Fund in Manotick or Cystic Fibrosis would be appreciated.
