Hobson – Arletta (Arlie) Louise
I

t is with great sadness that the family of Arlie Hobson (nee Russell), formerly of Manotick and most recently of Park Place Residence, announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the age of 97.
Dearest and proud mother of Robert, Linda, Doug (Kathleen) and Donna (Nicole). Loving grandmother of David (Lisa), Robert, Michelle and Justin and great-grandmother of Callan. Also survived by her brother Allen, many cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends in Manotick, Park Place Residence and the Hamilton area. Predeceased by her beloved husband George (2015), brothers Jim (2011) and Robert (2012), cousin Don Woods (2013) and dear grandson Martin (2018).
Arlie was born in Grand Valley, ON and grew up in Hamilton, ON. She was a proud graduate of McMaster University (BA - 1945) and of University of Toronto (Library Sciences - 1946). Arlie enjoyed her years in Alberta, where she and George moved immediately following graduation and marrying, and then they moved back East and settled in Manotick in 1959. During and after her work years, Arlie devoted much time volunteering for local community causes as well as being a long-serving volunteer at the Canadian Museum of Nature.
Arlie enjoyed her time with family and her large network of friends. She had a great sense of humour and an ability to easily make friends and cultivate life-long friendships. She was an avid bridge player, knitter, gardener and enjoyed music and the theatre over the years. Together George and Arlie loved to travel during their almost 67 years of joyful marriage, travelling extensively in India, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Guyana, New Zealand, The Caribbean, Antarctica, throughout Canada – coast-to-coast-to-coast, and widely throughout the USA. Over the years, time spent at the family cottage at Farren Lake was special: a place of rest, dear and long-held friendships and much family fun.
Cremation has occurred and Arlie will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony beside her beloved George at Johnston’s Corners (South Gloucester) United Church.
In memory of Arlie, donations may be made to Operation Eyesight Universal (www.operationeyesight.com) or to a charity of your choice.  Condolences or tributes may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com.
