Anna Belfie Née Wicklam

1929-2018

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Civic Hospital after a wonderful life full of love, family and friends. Beloved mother of Deborah (James) of Stittsville and Constance (Hal) of Calgary. Cherished grandmother of David of Ottawa, Kyle of Calgary and Lauren (Paul) of Mississauga. Proud great grandmother of Sophina. Predeceased by her beloved husband and fellow adventurer Richard "Dick", brother Edward "Ted", sister-in-law Hazel of Tamworth and nephew Eric of Enterprise, Ontario. Anna grew up on a small farm in Marlbank, Ontario and was educated in a one room school. She boarded in Napanee, Ontario to attend high school. After completing Normal School, she started teaching in Gananoque, Ontario where she met Dick, the love of her life. After living in Peterborough, Don Mills, Halifax, and Montreal they settled in Ottawa living in Crystal Beach and Amberwood. Anna taught in the Carleton Board until she retired in 1989. Anna immensely enjoyed her time with friends in the Better Half Notes, nordic skiing, golfing, playing duplicate bridge, knitting, book club and on her globetrotting adventures. Her children, grandchildren and sons-in-law loved her cookies and baked goods, the warm socks and sweaters she knit to keep us warm, the delicious Sunday dinners and the time and help she gave to all of us. As a primary teacher and teacher-librarian Anna strongly believed in the value of reading to and with children.
