Allan Kenneth Gardiner

1930 – 2016

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Allan at the age of 86 on December 16, 2016 at his home in Ottawa. Son of the late Kenneth and Kathleen Gardiner. Beloved husband of 63 years of the late Elizabeth Cameron Gardiner. Loving father of Kathleen of Breslau, Jill of Vancouver and Joyce (François Lemelin) of Lévis, Québec. Cherished grandfather of Sarah Tieleman (Kyle Cherry) and Nicolas Pouliot and great grandfather of Zackary and Tyler. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Patenaude (Raymond) and brothers-in-law Charles Bates (Lorna) and Ron Bates. Survived by his sisters Lois Heaslip (John) and Joan Price (Ed). He was fortunate to have many wonderful friends and will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Allan was born in Brantford, Ontario and attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto and graduated in Electronics in 1951. He joined Northern Electric in Belleville, Ontario in May 1951 and worked there and at sister company, Bell Northern Research, in Ottawa until he retired in 1990. He met Elizabeth at Christ Church in 1951 and they raised their family in Belleville. They moved to Ottawa in 1984. Allan was known in the neighbourhood for his renovation, handyman and gardening skills and was often seen delivering parcels, shovelling snow, picking up the mail and generally looking after all. He was deeply committed to Christ Church Belleville and Christ Church Bells Corners and fulfilled many roles at both churches. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, Ontario on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Bells Corners, 3861 Old Richmond Road on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Christ Church Bells Corners, JDRF or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. The family is deeply grateful for the tremendous support we have received from his many friends and neighbours and the Christ Church parish.
