ALISON ShirlawHornsby

The passing of Alison Shirlaw (Aird) Hornsby, wife of James Hornsby, of Ottawa occurred on January 11, 2015, at the Glebe Centre. Born on June 1, 1924 in Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of Jemima White Clark (Gough) Aird, and James Alexander Aird. Alison is survived by her husband, James (Jim), her sons, Fraser (Marina) of Oromocto, Alan (Kim) of Halifax, and daughter Elaine Hornsby (David Byleveld) of Kingston, and by grandchildren Laura, Bryan, Erin and Mark, and great-granddaughter Isla. She was pre-deceased by her elder sister Jean, of Glasgow, and her parents. Alison emigrated to Québec City to marry Jim and to have a family. After many moves all over Eastern Canada, Jim and Alison retired in Ottawa having enjoyed a full and varied life, celebrating 62 years married. The family would like to thank the staff of the Glebe Centre for the compassionate care provided for Alison during her residence there over the last five years. A Memorial Service will take place at Riverside United Church, 3191 Riverside Drive, Ottawa on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 2 PM, Rev. Paul Dillman officiating, with reception following. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated, to the Salvation Army or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
