In loving memory of Alice Layiki-Dehne, who peacefully died of cancer on March 11, 2017. Proud mother, wife and devoted counsellor to PTSD sufferers, Alice's passion for life and relentless positive attitude will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Alice was born on July 21, 1959 in Buikwe, Uganda. As one of nine siblings, Alice always stood out from the crowd due to her natural strong-will and adventurous spirit. This eventually lead her to Canada in 1982 after fleeing from civil unrest in her native country. As a young bride and mother to a three-year-old, Alice made a successful life of her own in this new land from a personal support worker to registered nurse, social worker and finally PTSD therapist to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Alice was a proud Queen's University Alumni. She was an avid traveler and when at home enjoyed nothing more than to cook or tend to her beloved organic fruit and vegetable garden and put anyone to work who she "invited" to see it.
Survived by husband, Frank and children, Ajuki, Ariye and Lugei.
