McCabe, Alfred James

June 5, 1936 – November 5, 2018 "A Life Well Lived"

On Monday, November 5th, we said goodbye to our husband, father and friend, Alfred James McCabe. Just as he was beginning to win his battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, he was taken peacefully, surrounded by his family. Alf was a true gentleman, who gave his skill and strength to help others through his work as a Civil Engineer, in devotion, knowledgeable advice or with just a quiet word. The son of a Great Lakes Mariner, Alf's life began in the Lakehead and moved to every corner of the world, bringing water and infrastructure improvements to the lives of many. In every stop, he brought to life stage sets, lending his construction talents to the theatre, supporting the work of the love of his life, his wife Jo-Ann. Wherever his adventurers took him, Alf's family was with him, either in person, as in Malaysia, Jamaica and Barbados, or in mind on solo trips. Alf is now on his last journey to join Our Saviour where he will await his loving partner Jo-Ann and the rest of his family. Alf is survived by his family, his devoted wife Jo-Ann, his son Gregg (Sharon Sanderson), and his daughter Kirstin (Jim Davidson). Alf was tremendously proud of his 7 grandchildren: Samuel, James, Timothy, Joseph (McCabe) and Katherine, Iain and Grace (Davidson). To them, he was their source of constant encouragement, their "Ponka". Visitation (closed casket) will be at Tubman's Garden Chapel Funeral Home (3440 Richmond Rd, Nepean) on Friday, November 9 th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church (3891 Richmond Rd, Nepean) on Saturday, November 10th at 2:30pm followed immediately by a celebration of Alf's life at the NCAC (Nepean Creative Arts Centre) 35 Stafford Rd. Internment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the "Water Projects" gift offered through Chalice (Canada), an organization dear to Alf and Jo-Ann's heart ( www.chalice.ca , 1-800-776-6855), would be greatly appreciated (please indicate "In Memory of Alfred J. McCabe"). Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
