Albert Taylor

July 15, 1918 — May 5, 2021

Albert Constantine Taylor

15th July 1918 – 5th May 2021

Al was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England. His father, Albert and mother, Margaret, emigrated to Canada in 1921 when Al was two years old.  Al spent most of his life in Ottawa where he has peacefully passed away at the grand age of 102 years.  After leaving High School in Brockville, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1937, graduating as an aeronautical engineer.  He joined the No 11 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron, flying anti submarine patrols out of Halifax before being assigned as Officer at the Flight Training Schools in Alberta.

At the end of the war Al joined the National Film Board as an Administration Officer. This was the beginning of his work in public service which spanned 45 years.  In 1956 he moved to the Public Archives where he managed the expansion and development of services over a period of 26 years, retiring as Executive Director in 1982.

He married Jean Elizabeth Green in May 1943 and they made Ottawa their home.  They had two sons, James Albert Taylor in 1944 and David John Taylor in 1951.

For many years the family enjoyed their cottage on Otty Lake and later in life Al and Jean would escape the Canadian winter for a sunnier climate in Fort Myers, Florida, enjoying making new friends and playing  golf.  Al had many friends from his years as an Elder of St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Ottawa, as a keen golfer and as a regular attender at local auctions. He was also a well known figure in the local community.

He is survived by his son, David, his grandchildren, Mark, Maryanne, Jessica and Madeline and great grandchildren, Oscar, Audrey, Bryson and Riley.

The funeral service will be held at Tubman Funeral Home, Ottawa on Saturday, 15th May 2021 at 2 pm. This is a virtual service, which will be streamed live to family and friends.  Access to the link is available www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com .
